Unfortunately, only five Acadiana area teams remain alive in the LHSAA football playoffs, after ten were eliminated in Regional round action on Friday night.

In class 5A, New Iberia lost to Catholic-Baton Rouge, 35-20, while Acadiana was eliminated by West Monroe, 24-0.

In class 4A, the fourth-seeded Teurlings Rebels advanced to the quarterfinals, after defeating Bastrop 42-21. Teurlings will take on McDonogh 35 next week. The other teams in the 4A bracket from the area weren't as fortunate however, with St. Thomas More being eliminated by St. Augustine, 40-14, St. Martinville losing to LaGrange, 41-20, and Breaux Bridge getting beat by Neville, 41-21.

In class 3A, the second-seeded Notre Dame Pioneers defeated St. Charles, 27-7, and move to play Iowa next week, and 13th-seeded Jennings upset 4th-seeded Loranger, 20-19, but Rayne was ousted by East Feliciana 39-10, Eunice was upset by Farmerville, 21-12, and North Vermilion lost to Iowa, 28-17.

There are no Acadiana area team remaining in the class 2A bracket, with Catholic-New Iberia losing to G.W. Carver, 62-35, and Loreauville falling to University, 52-21.

Finally, in class 1A, Vermilion Catholic and Westminster Christian still have hopes of a state title, after both were victorious on Friday night. 3rd-seeded Vermilion Catholic defeated Cedar Creek, 40-7, and will host West St. John next Friday, while 10th-seeded Westminster Christian defeated Block, 36-6, and will host second-seeded Haynesville next Friday.
