The Tampa Bay Rays have made up nine games on the Boston Red Sox since September 4th.  Now, going into the regular season finale, the two teams are tied for the American League Wild Card.

Tampa beat the New York Yankees last night 5-3 on a three-run homer by Matt Joyce.  The Rays also turned a triple play in the game.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox sweated out a ninth inning Orioles rally to beat Baltimore 8-7. The Sox are just 7-19 in the month of September.  The Orioles scored once and had the tying run on second when the game ended.  The Red Sox haven't won two straight games since August 27th.

Jon Lester will pitch for the Sox tonight against the Orioles.  David Price goes for Tampa against the Yankees.

If the two teams remain tied, a one-game playoff will be held in Tampa on Thursday.
