Exaggerator topped his rival Nyquist in the muddy Pimlico mud yesterday, giving brothers Keith and Kent Desormeaux the win at 141st running of the Preakness Stakes.

Kent, the jockey, and Keith, the trainer, both natives of Maurice, Louisiana, showed off Exaggerator's true talent, winning the Preakness in 1:58.31 on an extremely sloppy track.

How did the brothers embrace?

"I looked at him, and he looked at me, and I got a fist pump," Kent explained. "That's all we did."

Nyquist edged out Exaggerator by one and a half lengths at the Kentucky Derby three weeks ago, but this time, even his trainer felt like the Desormeauxs were the favorite.

"Hats off to Exaggerator and Team Desormeaux. What a great run," Nyquist trainer Doug O'Neill said after the race. "I didn't think we could get beat, to be honest with you."

A record Preakness crowd of 134,000 were on hand to see it.
