ESPN is reporting Jay Gruden, the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, will be named the new head coach of the Washington Redskins.

The Redskins have called a 3pm press conference.

Gruden has been given credit for the development of Bengals' quarterback Andy Dalton and the Redskins are hoping he can do the same with Robert Griffin III. Dalton has thrown for over 3,000 yards in each of his first three seasons, and the Bengals improved each year in points scored per game.

Gruden will be the sixth coach hired by owner Dan Snyder in the last fifteen years.  None of his hires have lasted more than four years.

Gruden replaces Mike Shanahan, who was fired a day after the season ended.

Gruden's brother Jon is an analyst on Monday Night Football
