Ernie Els

Ernie Els captured his second Open Championship, and fourth major title, by coming from behind to win the 2012 Open Championship on Sunday, held at Royal Lytham.

Els started the day six strokes back, but was terrific on Sunday, especially the back nine, where he was 4-under, which helped him to a 2-under round.

That score helped Els to a 7-under, 273, for the tournament, good enough for a one-shot victory over Adam Scott.

Scott was four shots ahead with only four holes to play, but then ran into trouble. After eight straight holes with nothing worse than par, Scott bogeyed each of his final four holes, and had to settle for second place.

Brandt Snedeker and Tiger Woods tied for third place, each at a 3-under, 277, four shots in back of Els.

Woods' bogeyed three holes on the back nine, which certainly didn't help his quest for the tournament title, but his most disappointing hole was the sixth, which he triple bogeyed.
