Watch below, as female cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten of Netherlands was involved in a spectacular crash in the final stages of the women’s cycling road race on Sunday.

Van Vleuten was leading, and appeared to be on her way to victory, when she lost control around a corner and clipped a curb, which sent her flying over her handlebars.

Van Vleuten, who was unconscious for some time, after crashing going approximately 50-mph, regained consciousness before being loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital.

Van Vleuten suffered three small fractures to her spine and will remain hospitalized in intensive care, but is expected to fully recover.

We wish her a speedy recovery.
