For many New Orleans Saints fans, the calendar year of 2012 couldn’t have ended quick enough. 2013 is off to a better start. Sean Payton signed and extension, and then Drew Brees announced he would be heading to Hawaii in two weeks for the Pro Bowl.

Brees sent out the news with this tweet on Wednesday: “I’m excited to join teammates Jahri Evans and Thomas Morstead at the Pro Bowl in a few weeks. Praying for a speedy recovery for RG3.’’

Despite leading the NFL in touchdowns (43) and passing yards (5177), Brees was not initially selected to the Pro Bowl, but was the first alternate at the quarterback position. Washington Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III suffered a knee injury, keeping him from attending the NFL’s All-Star game.
