Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun shortstop DJ Sanders is the current Sun Belt Conference softball Triple Crown leader.

A junior Columbus, Mississippi, Sanders is presently hitting a .413, to go along with 27 home runs and 70 runs batted in, which leads the league in all categories.

A first-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick a season ago, Sanders is on pace to hit approximately 35 homers, to go along with about 90 RBI’s.

A legitimate contender for National Player of the Year, Sanders also leads the league in slugging percentage, runs scored, and total bases, while ranking second in walks, behind teammate Aleah Craighton.

Another Sanders teammate, Haley Hayden, is having a fine senior season with Louisiana, ranking fourth in the conference with a .391 batting average, while driving in 52 runs, which ranks second.

Hayden has hit over a .500 in the month of April, while blasting 7 homers.

Senior second baseman Kassidy Zeringue also ranks in the top ten in the league in hitting, with a .382 average, which places her 6th.

In the pitching department, Texas St.’s Randi Rupp leads the conference in wins (21), ERA. (1.25), and strikeouts (242).

The Cajuns have two pretty good pitchers in their own right, as senior Alex Stewart and freshman Alyssa Denham have combined for a 31-5 record, to go along with a 2.09. ERA.

Offensively, as a team, Louisiana is hitting a .342, with 74 home runs, both of which leads the league.

Pitching-wise, the Cajuns currently sport an overall combined team ERA. of 2.17, which ranks second, behind Texas St. (1.67).

This weekend, Louisiana faces a Coastal Carolina team which ranks 5th in the league in hitting (.269), and 3rd in pitching (2.42 ERA).
