Just three days after the Denver Broncos were eliminated from the NFL playoffs, their offensive coordinator got a head coaching job.

The San Diego Chargers announced today the hiring of Mike McCoy as their new head coach, replacing Norv Turner.

McCoy is 40 years old, ironically, the same age as new general manager Tom Telesco.  Other candidates for the job included fired head coaches Lovie Smith and Ken Whisenhunt, Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

Bruce Arians, who served as interim head coach at Indianapolis during the season, was scheduled to be interviewed Wednesday but was informed McCoy was the Chargers' choice.

The Chargers haven't won a playoff game since 2008.
