Forward Dante Cunningham is returning to the New Orleans Pelicans on a one year deal, according to multiple reports.

The deal is worth $2.3 million, $700,000 less than he would've been paid had he opted in to his player-option for 2017-18 back in May.

Instead, Cunningham decided to test the market, hoping to get a longer, more valuable deal.

Milwaukee, Toronto and Minnesota all showed interest in the veteran, but Cunningham elected to return to a franchise he's spent the last two and a half seasons with.

Able to play the small forward or power forward position, Cunningham's return is important for the Pelicans, who are currently without starting small forward Solomon Hill, as he recovers from hamstring surgery and won't be available until sometime in the 2018 portion of the season.

As a 39.2% three point shooter and proven defender, Cunningham will likely get the bulk of his minutes at small forward, and is the likely starter for game 1.
