Dale Sveum has been named the manager of the Chicago Cubs.

Sveum was most recently the hitting coach for the Milwaukee Brewers.  He succeeds Mike Quade, who was fired after going 71-91 in his only full season with the club.

Sveum's only managerial experience was as the interim of the Brewers in 2008 after Ned Yost was fired.

Texas pitching coach Mike Maddux, Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin and Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar, Jr. were also interviewed.

Boston's Terry Francona took his name out of consideration for the job.

Sveum has a history with new Cubs GM Theo Epstein.  He was the Red Sox third base coach back in 2004-05.
