Ousted Florida International football coach Mario Cristobal was unexpectedly dismissed Wednesday.

Today, he's speaking out, saying he was "blindsided" by the move by Athletics Director Pete Garcia.  Sources to the program say there was a lot of friction between the two.

Cristobal was given a contract extension and a raise after taking FIU to back-to-back bowl games and rebuffing offers from Rutgers and Pitt.

But Cristobal got the axe after a 3-9 season in a year where starting quarterback Jake Medlock missed three games with injury, forcing the coaching staff to use freshman E. J. Hilliard.

Cristobal says he's been flooded with calls from organizations who want to hire him.
