He's been on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball coaching staff as long as his boss has.

Now Anthony Babineaux will sit next to his boss in the dugout.

The popular long-time Cajuns' baseball assistant has been promoted to Associate Head Coach by Tony Robichaux.

"Bab has been here the whole time, and he's done a lot of different things.  But one thing he hasn't done is watch a game from the dugout.  Now, as my bench coach, he'll be with me in the dugout and that will be one more step toward his being ready to be a head coach."

Babineaux was the first base coach for the Cajuns until after the 2007 season, when he moved to third base, replacing John Szefc when the now-Maryland head coach left to become an assistant at Kansas.

Matt Deggs, who joined the Cajuns after the 2012 season started, will now take over as the third base coach, while volunteer assistant Lance Harvell will coach first.

The Cajuns open the 2012 season Friday, February 15th against Central Michigan.  The Cajuns will play their first fourteen games at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
