UL freshman pitcher Christina Hamilton

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball be will have to do without the services of freshman pitcher Christina Hamilton for an indefinite period of time.

Hamilton  underwent an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday night, and the timetable for her return is unknown at this time.

Just last week, the outfielder/designated hitter Taryn Broussard had surgery to help heal a broken ankle.

Hamilton, a freshman from Rosepine High School, has been sterling in her rookie campaign, compiling a 6-1 record, with a 1.08 era. She has allowed only 18 hits, and six earned runs, in 39 innings, accumulating 56 strikeouts in the process.

Hamilton, who pitched a perfect game against Rhode Island in her collegiate debut, was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, on February 21.

The Cajuns do have options while Hamilton heals. Junior Ashley Brignac is 7-1, with a 0.55 era, and freshman Shelbee Rodgers is 5-0, with a 0.26.

UL opens up Sun Belt Conference play, this weekend, when they travel to Denton, Texas, to take on the North Texas Mean Green.
