Christi Orgeron Invited To Tryout With USA National Team
The honors continue to roll in for outfielder Christi Orgeron, a senior with Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team.
On Thursday, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) announced that Orgeron has been invited to try out for the 2012 USA Softball Women’s National Team for the second consecutive year.
Orgeron, who was a member of the USA National Team in 2011, is one of just 21 athletes in the nation to receive an invitation to try out for the team.
The New Orleans native is currently hitting a .271, with 21 homers, and 91 RBI’s, which leads the nation.
Orgeron was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after pacing the league in home runs, slugging percentage (.848), total bases (140) and walks (41). She’s also hit six grand slam homers this season, ties an NCAA records.
Orgeron The senior is a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
The 2012 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp will be held in Ashland, Ohio, June 10-12. Announced in January, 12 athletes have already been named to the National Team roster. Twenty-one additional attendees will vie for the remaining spots on the 2012 USA Softball Women’s National Team roster which will be announced on Wednesday, June 13.
Orgeron will lead the Cajuns into regional play this weekend, when they play host to Stanford, Baylor, and Mississippi Valley St. at Lamson Park.
