Championship Sunday Set In Lafayette, La. NCAA Softball Regional
Championship Sunday, the final day of Lafayette, La. NCAA Softball Regional is scheduled for Sunday at Lamson Park, as Lousiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns take on the Texas Longhorns.
Louisiana, the top-seed in the regional, and the #6-overall national seed, advanced to the finals by defeating the Texas Southern Lady Tigers, 7-4, on Friday night, before downing Texas, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon.
The Cajuns, who won the regular season, as well as the postseason Sun Belt Conference Championships, will enter play on Sunday with an overall record of an overall record of 46-8-1, winners of 38 of their last 41 games.
Louisiana, who is a national seed for the first time in program history, is appearing in their 24th regional in 25 years, and is hosting a regional for the second time since the Super Regional format began in 2005, as well as the first time since 2012.
Texas, who fell in the elimination bracket by falling to Louisiana, advanced to the finals by defeating Mississippi St. 4-3, in dramatic, come-from-behind fashion, on Saturday night.
Down 3-1, with two out, and nobody on base, Texas got two runners on base, before Lindsey Stephens blasted a three-run home run; to give the Longhorns the one-run win.
Texas will enter Sunday with an overall record of 35-22.
The Longhorns are making their 15th regional appearance.
If Louisiana wins the first game, which is scheduled for noon, the Cajuns would advance to their third-consecutive Super Regional, and their fourth in the last five years.
If Texas wins, there would be an “if necessary” game, approximately 35 minutes after.

Saturday: 6 pm—Game 5—Texas 4, Mississippi St. 3 (Mississippi St. eliminated)
Sunday: Noon—Game 6—Louisiana (46-8-1) vs. Texas (35-22)
Sunday: 3 pm—Game 7—Louisiana vs. Loser Game 6 (if necessary)
