Catholic Church In Auburn Trolls Nick Saban With Sign

St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Auburn (pictured above) used a little Biblical history to troll Alabama head football coach Nick Saban.

Their electrical sign in front of Church reads, “Support the ban on slingshots.” — Goliath

(for a closer look at the sign, click here)

Saban was the loudest, and most notable advocate of an NCAA rule proposal that would not allow college football offenses to snap the ball until at least 10 seconds had run off the play clock (with the exception of the final 2:00 of each half). Many coaches around college football spoke out against the proposal, and it was withdrawn yesterday, before it would be voted on.

Saban claims that the change would benefit player safety, but the sentiment among many in college football, especially Auburn, is that Saban is only trying to help his own agenda as a defensive minded coach who would prefer more time for his defense to adjust between plays.

Auburn runs an up-tempo style of offense, and defeated Alabama last season in one of the most memorable college football games of all-time.

Was the sign an intentional jab at Saban? Come on. The Church is in Auburn. What do you think?

In an interview with thewareaglereader.com, Monsignor William Skoneki, a priest at Saint Michael’s, claims it was all a coincidence…or just his secretary.

“I gave our secretary a bunch (of quotes) and that’s the one she happened to pick today, so I can’t take credit,” Skoneki said. “But it certainly fits today’s situation.”

“Coach Saban is a good Catholic, actually, a daily mass Catholic. But on the field, he’s more of a Goliath.”

I don’t want to accuse a priest of lying, but I bet he had a little something to do with it.

“College football in the state of Alabama is like a religion.” How often have you heard it?

St. Michael the Archangel’s jab at Saban going viral only enforces that thought across the sports universe.
