Andrea Brodhead, who along with husband Garry, co-founded the AAU Stars Girls Basketball program in Lafayette, succumbed Thursday evening after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Brodhead's cancer returned in late December.  Her husband missed several road trips with the Cajuns' women's basketball team last season in order to care for his wife.  They made several trips to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for treatment over the last eight months.

The Brodhead's daughter Ashley won two state championships as the girls basketball coach at St. Thomas More.  Another daughter, Blair, played for her father at Teurlings Catholic.  She is married to former Cajuns' basketball star and current Opelousas High basketball coach Brad Boyd.  Son Beau played football at basketball at STM.

She also is survived by three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
