Last year, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns got their first-ever win over Louisiana Tech in women’s basketball.

Now, they’ll try to do what no Cajun women’s team has ever done.

Win in Ruston.

The Cajuns meet Louisiana Tech Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston Saturday in a game scheduled to start at 6pm. The game can be heard on ESPN1420 beginning at 5:45.

The Cajuns defeated the Lady Techsters 54-50 last season, their first success against Tech in 40 tries. Two years ago, the Cajuns lost 51-44, the first time they’ve ever been within 30 points against Tech in Ruston. The Cajuns are 0-20 in Ruston with most of those meetings at the Thomas Assembly Center.

In last year’s win over the Lady Techsters, Kia Wilridge and Jaylyn Gordon combined for 33 points. Wildridge, Gordon and Keke Veal are all averaging over 14 points per game this season. The Cajuns are outscoring their opponents by 19 points per game during their 7-1 start.

The Cajuns are in search of their eighth win in first nine games to start the campaign for the second consecutive season. The defense yielded just 42 points (third-lowest total this season) to UC Santa Barbara last Tuesday at the Cajundome.

Louisiana Tech (4-5) is coached by Tyler Summitt, son of the legendary Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt. The Lady Techsters have lost their previous two games, falling to Arizona 77-67 and Mississippi State 93-63.

Senior forward Brandi Wingate is averaging 17.4 points per game and is the reigning Conference USA player of the week. She also is Tech’s leading rebounder (7.3) Guard Brooke Pomroy is the other double figure scorer for Tech with 10.1 points per game.
