Cajuns Take Down Stony Brook 7-3 At The Tigue

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team improved to 3-2 on the young season Friday night, defeating the Stony Brook Seawolves 7-3 in front of 3,374 fans at M.L. "Tigue" Moore field.

In the first game of 2015 at the Tigue, Louisiana gave their fans plenty to cheer about halfway through the contest.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the 5th, the Cajun batters evened the score with 3 runs on 3 hits, moving batters with timely bunts, and eventually getting a 2 RBI double to left field from junior Stefan Trosclair, following by an RBI single from senior Greg Davis.

The following inning, Louisiana added 4 more on three hits to score 7 unanswered. Senior Tyler Giourard brought home Kyle Clement on a fielder's choice, before Nick Thurman came in to pinch hit a 2 RBI triple. Junior shortstop Blake Trahan hit a sac fly to center to bring home Thurman for the final run of the game.

Juco transfer Colton Lee showed off a variety of pitches in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings, allowing only one hit, striking out three, and earning his 2nd save of the year.

Freshmen hurler Evan Guillory got the start for the Cajuns, going 4.2 innings, giving up three runs, three hits and two walks. Two of his runs came late in the top of the 5th, as coach Tony Robichaux explained after the win that Guillory was dealing with leg cramps.

Riley Cooper came in in relief, going 1.1 innings and earning the victory.

The win gives coach Robichaux 998 in his career, two away from a special milestone. Will he reach 1,000 in less than 24 hours?

Tomorrow, Louisiana will host a Saturday double-header versus Stony Brooke. With game 3 originally scheduled for Sunday, it was moved to Saturday to avoid potential bad weather scheduled for the Sunday forecast.
