Gunner Leger and three relievers combined for a five hit shutout as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns took the first game of their three game series with Sacred Heart, defeating the Patriots 8-0 efore 4,369 fans at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field Friday night.

Leger (1-0) allowed five hits with one walk and six strikeouts, throwing 89 pitches in his six innings of work.  Jevin Huval, Chris Charpentier and Reagan Bazar threw three perfect innings of relief.

The Cajuns (6-4) got a third inning run off Patriots' starter Jared Cooksey (0-2) on a Brenn Conrad sacrifice fly in the first inning, and broke the game open with five runs in the fourth.  Alex Pinero's two run single and Stefan Trosclair's two run double highlighted the inning.  The Cajuns added single runs in the seventh and eighth for the final margin.

Joe Robbins, Nick Thurman and Hunter Kasuls each had a pair of hits for the Cajuns, with Pinero driving in three runs and Trosclair adding a pair of RBI.  Kasuls scored three times for the Cajuns, who remained undefeated at home.

The Cajuns return to action Saturday in game two with the Patriots.  Wyatt Marks will get the start for Louisiana.
