The first NCAA RPI was released Monday, and Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns check in at #7.

The Cajuns' non-conference RPI is at #5, which will be very important in May when regional host sites are announced.  The Cajuns have only one more non-conference game remaining, Wednesday at McNeese State.

The Cajuns' strength of schedule is much improved this year and that shows in the RPI rankings. The Cajuns have not hosted an NCAA Regional since 2002.  Their RPI/Strength of schedule was mentioned as one of the reasons why UL has not been chosen despite a high ranking in the polls.

The RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) is a formula used to calculate the strength of teams around the country based on winning percentage and schedule strength.  25% of a team's RPI is their winning percentage, 50% of the formula is the opponents' winning percentage and another 25% comes from opponents opponents' winning percentage.

The Cajuns, despite the loss to Troy over the weekend, did not lose any ground in the NFCAUSA Today poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball polls released today.  The Cajuns remain in the #8 spot.
