It was thought Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team might take an RPI hit after falling to Louisiana-Monroe Saturday in the first game of their Sun Belt Conference doubleheader.

But in the new RPI rankings released Monday by the NCAA, Louisiana only slipped one notch, to number 13.  UCLA passed the Cajuns in the rankings this week.

With the Cajuns hoping to host an NCAA regional next week, keeping their RPI in the top sixteen is important.

The Cajuns (46-3) open up Sun Belt Tournament play on Wednesday when they face Florida Atlantic (15-36), the host team and #8 seed.  The game is scheduled for 6:30 EDT.  While the Cajuns' RPI will be hurt by playing a team with such a poor record, the Cajuns might have a chance to negate that, depending on who else they play in the tournament.

South Alabama is the #2 seed and has the second best record in the league.  The Cajuns would like to play (and beat) them sometime during the tournament.

In addition to the #13 RPI ranking, the Cajuns' non-conference RPI, another measuring stick for seeding, went up a notch to #2 this week.
