Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun football team is ranked number 49 in the USA TODAY College Football Countdown.

Louisiana is coming off consecutive 9-4 seasons, including back-to-back New Orleans Bowl victories.

Interestingly, USA TODAY has the two teams that the Cajuns played in the last two New Orleans Bowls flanking them in the rankings, with San Diego St., who UL beat in 2011, one spot above, at number 48, and East Carolina, who the Cajuns defeated last year, at number 50.

Louisiana is ranked the highest from the Sun Belt Conference, with Arkansas St. checking in at # 56, ULM at #65, WKU at #75, Troy at #97, Texas St. at #104, South Alabama at #122, and Georgia St. at #125.

The Cajuns open up their 2013 regular season schedule on Saturday, August 31, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
