Fans of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns football will be getting more football news than ever before beginning this season when radio pre-game expands from 30 minutes to two hours before kickoff.

The move, announced today by Townsquare Media, rights-holder for Cajuns’ sports broadcasts and the UL athletics department, will offer more interviews, pre and post game analysis and special features than ever before.

“We’re excited that the broadcasts of Ragin’ Cajuns football will be more comprehensive than ever,” said Scott Farmer, UL athletics director.  With the success of our football program and the increased interest that comes with it, this is a perfect time to expand coverage.”

The first hour of the pre-game show, to be heard on flagship station KPEL-AM (ESPN1420) will feature interviews with Louisiana offensive coordinator Jay Johnson and defensive coordinator Greg Stewart.  A preview of play around the Sun Belt Conference, scoring updates from around the country and a conversation with the play by play voice of the opponent will also be featured.

The second hour of the pre-game show, to be broadcast throughout the seven station radio network (ESPN1420AM/KHXT-FM in Lafayette, KJEF-AM in Jennings, KLCL-AM in Lake Charles, KTUX-FM in Shreveport, WGSO-AM in New Orleans and KRJO-AM in Monroe) will feature a pre-game interview with Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Mark Hudspeth plus an interview with the coach of the opposition, along with a scouting report of that day’s opponent, score updates from around the country, a pre-game injury report and scouting reports and pre-game analysis.

In addition, an expanded post-game will feature highlights and statistics from the game as well as postgame analysis and early scouting report on the next opponent.

Jay Walker begins his 21st season of radio coverage of Cajuns football in 2012.  He will be joined in the broadcast booth by former Cajuns player and coach Gerald Broussard.  Steve Peloquin starts his tenth season by moving to the sideline this season and Scott Prather will handle the production of the pre-game and post-game show.

“This is going to be fun,”  Walker said.  “We’re looking forward to being in the tailgating area for the first hour when we’re at home, visiting with fans and letting our listeners in on what gameday is like at Cajun Field.  Gerald will add a whole new dimension to the analysis of the game and Steve will give us a presence on the field we’ve been missing.  Scott will be the host of the pregame and postgame shows and will handle some of the features we’ll be doing.  Our fans deserve this.”

The Cajuns open the 2012 season September 1st at 6pm against Lamar.  Pre-game will begin on the flagship at 4pm, with the network affiliates joining at 5pm.
