Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun football team opens up their 2016 regular season schedule on Saturday, when coach Mark Hudspeth’s squad plays host to the Boise St. Broncos in a non-conference contest.

The annual Herbert Heymann Classic, in which fans are encouraged to wear white, will serve as the season opener for both teams.

The Cajun Harley Davidson Tailgate show, begins at 9 am on ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com, with the rest of the network, including Hot 107.9 and 1079ishot.com, joining the broadcast in time for the Hampton Toyota Pregame Show, which will begin at 10 o’clock.

Kickoff time at Cajun Field is set for 11 am.

Louisiana, who dropped their final four games last season, finished 4-8, including a 3-5 Sun Belt Conference mark.

Offensively, the Cajuns averaged 26.4 points-per-game last season, along with 380.0 total yards, 173.0 rushing yards, and 208.0 passing yards, while allowing 31.8 points, 421.0 total yards, 184.0 rushing yards, and 237.0 passing yards.

Louisiana is led by senior running back Elijah McGuire, who compiled 1,058 yards, along with 13 touchdowns, on 210 carries in 2015.

Boise St., who defeated Northern Illinois, 55-7, in the Poinsettia Bowl last season, finished 9-4, including a 5-3 mark in the Mountain West Conference.

Offensively, the Broncos averaged 39.1 points last year, along with 502.0 total yards, 191.0 rushing yards, and 310.0 passing yards a contest, while allowing 20.2 points, 318.0 total yards, 210.0 passing yards, and 108.0 rushing yards.

Boise St. is paced by junior running back Jeremy McNichols, who rushed for 1,337 yards and 20 touchdowns a season ago.

The Cajuns fell to the Broncos, 34-9, in the last meeting between the two schools, back in 2014, in Boise, Idaho.
