Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun football team returns to the gridiron on Saturday evening, when coach Mark Hudspeth’s squad travels to Las Cruces, New Mexico to take on the New Mexico St. Aggies in a Sun Belt Conference match-up.

The game, which will be the first conference road tilt of the year for Louisiana, will mark the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools, with UL winning 6 of the 10 previous games.

New Mexico St. did win the last match-up, a 37-34 victory over Louisiana last year at Cajun Field.

The Cajun Harley Davidson Tailgate show, begins at 5 pm on ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com, with the rest of the network, including Hot 107.9 and 1079ishot.com, joining the broadcast in time for the Southside Honda Pregame Show, which will begin at 6 o’clock.

Kickoff time at Aggie Memorial Stadium is set for 7 pm.

Louisiana, who fell to Tulane, 41-39, in four overtimes in their conference opener last week in New Orleans, is 2-2, overall, and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Offensively, the Cajuns are averaging 26.8 points-per-game, along with 386.5 total yards, 173.5 rushing yards, and 213.0 passing yards, while allowing 32.8 points, 399.3 total yards, 115.3 rushing yards, and 284.0 passing yards.

Louisiana is led by senior quarterback Anthony Jennings, who has completed 73-of-118 passes for 852 yards and 7 touchdowns, and senior running back Elijah McGuire, who has rushed for 497 yards and three touchdowns.

New Mexico St., who dropped their Sun Belt Conference opener last week, after falling to Troy, 52-6, will enter the match-up at 1-3, overall, and 0-1 in league play.

Offensively, the Aggies are averaging 25.5 points-per-game, along with 422.8 total yards, 139.5 rushing yards, and 283.3 passing yards a contest, while allowing 45.8 points, 509.5 total yards, including 274.5 rushing yards, and  235.0 passing yards.

New Mexico St. is paced by senior quarterback Tyler Rogers, who has completed 83-of-163 passes for 1,102 yards and 5 touchdowns, and junior running back Larry Rose III, who led the conference with 1,651 rushing yards last season.

The game marks the second game of a two-game road trip for the Cajuns, who return home on Wednesday, October 12, when they host Appalachian St.
