Back nearly a month ago, we reported James Willis was the leading candidate to become the new defensive coordinator at the University of Louisiana.

Today, the University made it official.

Willis' appointment is pending official approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

Willis is a nine year veteran of collegiate coaching after playing in the NFL.  He was associate head coach on the Alabama team that beat Texas for the national championship.

His last coordinator's job was at Texas Tech.
