The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns haven’t played a mid-week game in two weeks and they’re back in the Sun Belt wars this weekend as they take on Georgia State in a three game Sun Belt Conference Series.  Game times are scheduled for 5pm Friday, 1pm Saturday and 12:00 Sunday (all times Central).

The Cajuns (10-7, 3-2 Sun Belt) did not have a mid-week game scheduled last week and had a pair of contests rained out the week prior.  This is the second straight weekend the Cajuns are on the road in Sun Belt play.  Louisiana dropped two games to UALR last weekend.

If there’s a surprise team in the league thus far, it’s the Panthers (13-7, 2-0) who failed to qualify for the conference tournament a year ago.  Improved pitching is the main reason for the turnaround, as GSU has a team ERA of 3.98.  The Panthers are led offensively by Ryan Blanton (.385-4-13) who was named the national player of the week last week.  Georgia State, as they were a year ago, has hit with power this year.  The Panthers are batting .279 as a team, but they have 35 doubles, nine triples and 19 home runs on the season.  Matt Rose (.289-7-17) leads the Sun Belt in home runs, while Caden Bailey (.333-1-13 and Joey Roach (333-4-23) are also hitting over .300

The pitching matchups are scheduled as follows

FRIDAY—UL-RHP-Evan Guillory (1-0, 5.26) vs.GSU-RHP-Nathan Bates (2-0, 2.67)

SATURDAY—UL—LHP—Gunner Leger (2-0, 3.58) vs. GSU-LHP-Kenny Anderson (2-1, 3.67)

SUNDAY—UL-Greg Milhorn (0-0, 4.34) vs. GSU-RHP Cole Uvila (0-2, 4.35)

Louisiana leads the Sun Belt in batting with a .285 team batting average.  Junior shortstop Blake Trahan (.431-1-11) is the league’s leading hitter, while Nick Thurman (.382-1-10) is the other Cajun hitting over .300.

The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper 60’s on Friday, mostly sunny skies with a high of 75 on Saturday.  However, as of Thursday afternoon, there is a 90% chance of rain on Sunday.

Friday’s game will be heard on ESPN1420 with pre-game beginning at 4:30.  Saturday (12:35) and Sunday (11:35) will be heard on 96.5 KPEL FM.  Jay Walker and baseball SID Jeff Schneider will have the action from the GSU Baseball Complex.
