Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun football team returns to the gridiron on Wednesday evening, when coach Mark Hudspeth’s squad plays host to the Appalachian St. Mountaineers in Sun Belt Conference match-up.

The game, which will be the first home game for Louisiana since September 17, will mark the third all-time meeting between the two schools, with Appalachian St. winning both, including a 35-16 victory in 2014 in Lafayette in 2014, followed by 28-7 triumph in Boone, North Carolina last year.

The Cajun Harley Davidson Tailgate show, begins at 5 pm on ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com, with the rest of the network, including Hot 107.9 and 1079ishot.com, joining the broadcast in time for the Southside Honda Pregame Show, which will begin at 6 o’clock.

Kickoff time at Cajun Field is set for 7 pm.

Louisiana, who fell to New Mexico St., 37-31, in double overtime back on October 1 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is 2-3, overall, and 1-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Offensively, the Cajuns are averaging 27.6 points-per-game, along with 395.6 total yards, 179.8 rushing yards, and 215.8 passing yards, while allowing 33.6 points, 419.2 total yards, 121.2 rushing yards, and 298.0 passing yards.

Louisiana is led by senior quarterback Anthony Jennings, who has completed 85-of-140 passes for 995 yards and 8 touchdowns, and senior running back Elijah McGuire, who has rushed for 517 yards and three touchdowns.

Appalachian St., who defeated Georgia St., 17-3, back on October 1, will enter the match-up at 3-2, overall, and 1-0 in league play.

Offensively, the Mountaineers are averaging 23.2 points-per-game, along with 379.2 total yards, 213.0 rushing yards, and 166.2 passing yards a contest, while allowing 22.6 points, 384.2 total yards, including 133.8 rushing yards, and  250.4 passing yards.

Appalachian St. is paced by junior quarterback Taylor Lamb, who has completed 74-of-120 passes for 827 yards and 6 touchdowns, and senior running back Marcus Cox, who rushed for 1,428 yards last season.

The game marks the only ame of a short one-game road trip for the Cajuns, who are on the road on Saturday, October 22, against Texas St., before returning to Cajun Field on Saturday, October 29, for a homecoming match-up against Idaho.
