Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun football team dropped a Sun Belt Conference road game on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Appalachian St. Mountaineers, 28-7, in Boone, North Carolina.

Appalachian St. scored the first 28 points of the game, and never looked back, as they captured their ninth win of the year.

The loss mark the third-consecutive setback for Louisiana, who concluded the road portion of their schedule with a record of 1-5.

For Appalachian St., the win kept them one game behind Arkansas St. atop the conference standings, while ending their home schedule with a record of 5-1.

Appalachian St. got on the scoreboard first, at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter, when Marcus Cox scored on a 9-yard touchdown run, capping off a 6-play, 55-yard drive, to give them a 7-0 lead.

The scored stayed that way until the 14:03 mark of the second period, when Cox scored on his second touchdown run of the game, this one on a 1-yard plunge, ending a 15-play, 80-yard, to extend the Pioneers' advantage to 14-0, a score that would hold up as the teams headed to their respective locker rooms for halftime.

Appalachian St. outgained Louisiana, in terms of total yards in the first half, 219-112, including a 123-84 in passing yards, as well as a 96-28 edge in rushing yards.

Quarterback Taylor Lamb led the way for the Pioneers over the first 30:00, completing 9-of-12 passes for 123 yards, while Cox rushed for 33 yards, including 2 touchdowns.

Brooks Haack paced the Cajuns in the first half of play, completing 8-of-13 passes for 84 yards.

Appalachian St. scored the first points of the second half, when Jalin Moore scored on a long 54-yard run, completing a 4-play, 68-yard drive, to make it 21-0 at the 6:44 mark of the third quarter.

The Mountaineers made it 28-unanswered points at the 6:34 mark of the fourth quarter, when Lamb connected with Michael Moll on a short 2-yard touchdown pass, culminating a 12-play, 86-yard drive, to extend their lead to 28-0.

Louisiana finally scored their first points of the game with 1:12 remaining, when redshirt freshman quarterback Jordan Davis scored the first touchdown of his college career, on a 21-yard run, capping off a 12-play, 75-yard drive, to cut the deficit to 28-7.

It was far too little, too late, however, as Appalachian St. went on to the 21-point win.

Appalachian St. outgained Louisiana, in terms of total yards, 402-246, including a 230-42 advantage in rushing yards, while UL finished with a 204-172 edge in passing yards.

Lamb led the way for the Pioneers, completing 14-of-21 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown, while Moore rushed for 104 yards, including a score, on 13 carries.

Combined, Moore and Cox rushed 35 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns.

In a losing cause for the Cajuns, Haack completed 13-of-22 passes for 128 yards, while Elijah McGwire was held to 43 yards on 16 carries.

With the victory, Appalachian St. improved to 9-2, overall, and 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play, wile Louisiana fell to 4-7, and 3-4, respectively.

The Cajuns close out their 2015 regular season schedule next Saturday, when they play host to the Troy Trojans at 4 o'clock at Cajun Field.
