Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team fell on the road in non-conference action on Friday evening, losing to the Texas Southern Tigers, 74-71, in Houston Texas.

Texas Southern led at the half, 29-19, but Louisiana chipped away throughout the second half, and sophomore guard Elfrid Payton was able to send the game into overtime with two clutch free throws with :0.8 remaining

The Tigers then out-scored the Cajuns, 9-6 in the overtime period, to capture their first win of the year.

UL out-rebounded TSU, 47-40, but the Tigers out-shot the Cajuns from the field, 38%-36%, and hit 21 free throws, compared to only ten for Louisiana.

Raymond Penn led Texas Southern in scoring, with 17 points, while freshman Shawn Long paced the Cajuns in a losing cause, with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Bryant Mbamalu added 18 for UL, with Payton chipping in with 15. All of the points for Mbamalu and Payton came in the second half.

With the win, Texas Southern improved to 1-2, while the Cajuns fell to 1-1.

Louisiana returns to the hardwood on Sunday, when they travel to Boise, Idaho, to take on the Boise St. Broncos in non-conference action.
