Cajuns Crush Owls, 12-2

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball won a big Sun Belt Conference game on Sunday, defeating the FAU Owls, 12-2, in seven innings, at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The rubber game of the three-game series was stopped after seven-and-a-half innings, due to the ten-run rule on getaway day in the conference.

For the third-consecutive game, Louisiana scored in the first inning, and they did it in a big way, plating six opening-inning runs, with outfielder Seth Harrison blasting a grand slam home run over the left-field fence, his second grand slam of the year, and his third homer of the series, giving them a 6-0 lead.

The first inning onslaught knocked FAU starting pitcher Brandon Rhodes out of the game, before he even recorded a single out.

The Cajuns added two more runs in the second inning, before adding two more in the fourth, courtesy of a two-run homer by outfielder Dylan Butler, his second of the year, and with a 10-0 advantage, the route was on.

The Owls scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, before Caleb Adams drove home two runs with a double in the bottom half, making the score, 12-1, UL.

FAU added a run in the top of the seventh inning, but it was way too late, and far too late, as the Cajuns wrapped-up the series win.

The 12 runs scored by Louisiana was the most runs scored by any one team in the series history between the two schools.

Adams and Butler each collected three hits, with Harrison driving home four runs, in a 12-hit UL offensive attack.

Junior left-hander Cody Boutte (6-2) picked-up the win, allowing five hits, and two runs, over seven complete innings, while Rhodes (3-2), who was the first of five FAU pitchers, suffered the loss.

With the win, the Cajuns improved to 27-13, overall, and 10-8 in sun Belt Conference play, while the Owls dropped to 26-14, overall, and 11-7 in league play.
