For the first time this year, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have won a weekend series as Jack Burk and Austin Perrin combined to shut down UTA's offense as the Cajuns won their third straight game, beating the Mavericks 4-2 at chilly Russo Park Saturday night.

Louisiana broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning against UTA's freshman reliever David Moffat (3-5) as Gavin Bourgeois led off with a walk and went to third on Hunter Kasuls' single.  Bourgeois scored when Kasuls was thrown out trying to steal.  The Cajuns added an insurance run in the seventh when Zach Lafleur singled, went to second on a ground out and to third on a passed ball.  Kole McKinnon popped up the suicide squeeze bunt, but it fell safely to the ground as Lafleur scored.

Burk pitched the Cajuns into the sixth inning before giving way to Perrin with the score tied and the bases loaded with one out.  Perrin (2-4) worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground ball and allowed just one base runner the rest of the way.

The Cajuns (15-16, 5-6 Sun Belt) got on the board in the first inning against UTA starter Trae Patterson when Hayden Cantrelle singled and later scored on Kasuls' single to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.  But UTA(14-15, 6-5)

tied it in the third when David Renning homered off Burk.  Louisiana retook the lead in the fourth when Kennon Fontenot singled and scored on Tyler Stover's two out single.  But in the sixth, Zac Cook was hit by a pitch and with one out, singles by Wil Olson, Christian Hollie and Omar Salinas tied the score at two apiece.  Perrin went to three and one against Noah Vaughan before coming back to strike him out and then got Renning on a grounder to Fontenot at third.

Each team had eight hits in the contest, all of them singles except for Rennings' homer.  Burk and Perrin allowed two walks and struck out 13, while Patterson and Moffat walked two and struck out five.

The Cajuns have now won three straight for the first time this season and will go for the weekend sweep tomorrow at 1:00.
