The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns found out Monday that they are the #6 National seed heading into Regional play this weekend at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

This means if the Cajuns win the regional this weekend, they would stay home for the Super Regional against the winner of the Oxford regional.

#2 Mississippi State, #3 San Diego State and #4 Jackson State will all be coming to Lafayette for the regional beginning this Friday.

San DIego State meets Mississippi State in the first game Friday at 1pm, while Louisiana takes on Jackson State at 6pm.

The ESPN cameras were at the "Tigue" today to get reactions of the team as their #6 seed was announced, and as the pairings for the Lafayette Regional were announced.  Louisiana was the only school that was highlighted with live coverage.  UL coach Tony Robichaux did a live interview on the show, which aired at 11am on ESPNU.

Louisiana (53-7) will face Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion Jackson State (31-23), while Mississippi State, who finished the season 37-22, will face San Diego State, (42-19) the Mountain West Conference Tournament Champion.

Mississippi State had an 18-12 record in Southeastern Conference play and went 2-2 in the Conference Tournament.  They went into the SEC tournament as the #5 seed.  San Diego State was the #3 seed in the Mountain West Tournament. They defeated top seeded UNLV to qualify in the field of 64.  Jackson State was the #4 seed in the West Division of the SWAC.  They defeated tournament favorite Alabama State in the finals.

Former Major League great Tony Gwynn is the head coach of San Diego State.  However, Gwynn is on a leave of absence because of cancer treatments.  Mark Martinez is the interim head coach in Gwynn's absence.  The Aztecs were 28-12 when Gwynn stepped down.
