For the second time this season, Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball catcher Lexie Elkins was recognized for her outstanding play.

The Cajuns are coming off a series sweep at Western Kentucky, and Elkins' play certainly helped the cause as she batted .500, hit two home runs, and drove in 8 RBI. For her efforts, she's been named the Sun Belt Conference softball player of the week.

It's the second time this season Elkins has received the designation, earning POW honors on February 10th.

"She is a rock solid player in the middle of our lineup," associate head softball coach T.J. Hubbard said of Elkins. "You can count on her to either get on or drive somebody else in.  The top three or four of our lineup have been very consistent and had a very competitive attitude all season."

It's the 4th time this season a Cajun has earned conference player of the week honors. In addition to Elkins two honors, pitcher Christina Hamilton and fielder Natalie Fernandez have been recognized this season as well.

Next up for the Cajuns, a Wednesday road game at Northwestern State. Steve Peloquin has the radio call on our sister station, Talk Radio 960, and talkradio960.com. Pregame is set for 5:45. First pitch follows at 6.
