The #5 Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team dominated Southern Miss on Saturday, sweeping the Eagles in a pair of mercy run rule victories.

Power was the theme for the Cajun batters, as the team finished with a whopping 11 home runs in the two games to extend their win streak to 10 and improve their overall record to 16-1.

In game 1, Louisiana collected 13 hits on their way to a 17-1 victory in 5 innings. The Cajuns took an 8-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, powered by an Aleah Craighton grand slam.

Alex Stewart (8-0) earned the win, fanning 2 batters in 2.0 innings of no-hit work. Victoria Brown and Alison Deville combined for 3 innings of work, striking out 2, allowing 4 hits and a run.

Game 2 began with a scoreless 1st inning before the Cajuns scored 5 in the second, 1 in the 3rd, 5 in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th on their way to the 13-0 mercy run rule win in 5 innings.

Kylee Jo Trahan (5-1) earned the victory, throwing all 5 innings, allowing only 4 hits, striking out 8 Southern Miss batters, shutting out the Eagles.

Lexie Elkins, who leads the nation in home runs, hit 3 more on Saturday, pulling her overall number to 14.

DJ Sanders hit 3 home runs on the day too, as both she and Elkins were 4 of 6 at the plate with 3 homers and 5 RBI apiece.

Five home runs in game 1 was a season-high, topped a few hours later when the Cajuns hit 6 bombs in game 2.
