Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball catcher Lexie Elkins is no stranger to national recognition.

The senior All-American from Victoria, Texas was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week today, as well as the (ASA)/USA Softball Player of the Week, sweeping the national honors.

Elkins, the two-time Sun Belt Player of the Year was also named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week earlier this afternoon.

Louisiana began their season 5-0 last weekend at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, and Elkins was one of the many reasons why.

She hit .667, going 10-15 at the plate, homering 5 times and chipping in 14 RBI.

"What Lexie has been able to accomplish, in terms of her performance when she does it, brings recognition - her home run power, incredible hand-eye, competitiveness and pitch recognition," Louisiana softball head coach Michael Lotief said in a University press release. "We get to be around her day in and day out and see another side of her. We see how she's grown as a leader, how hard she works in preparing each day, how she's a tireless leader and how humble she is every time the spotlight shines on her."

Louisiana, ranked #7 in D1 softball, welcomes #4 Oregon to Lamson Park this Friday and Saturday for 3 contests, before wrapping up their play in the 30th Annual Louisiana Classics tournament with a single game matchup on Sunday against Central Arkansas.
