Newcomers Jay Hedgeman and Tyrone Wooten combined for 36 points as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns opened the 2015-16 season with a 104-72 win over Mississippi College  in an exhibition game at the Cajundome Monday night.

The win completed a Monday night sweep as the Louisiana women were victorious as well, defeating LSU-Alexandria 95-48

Hedgeman scored 19 points in just 16 minutes on 5-7 shooting from the field and 8-9 from the three throw line.  Wooten, meanwhile, scored 16 points and led the Cajuns in rebounds (6) and assists (4).  The two junior college transfers were joined in double figures by sophomore Johnathan Stove (14 points), senior Kasey Shepherd (13) and Shawn Long (11).

The Cajuns shot 50.7% from the field, 10-26 from beyond the arc (38.5%) and 22-25 from the free throw line in opening a 53-34 halftime lead.  The Cajuns forced 26 turnovers in the game, including 14 steals (Stove-5) and had a 17-14 assist/turnover ratio.

Torrey Rice scored 23 points for Mississippi College.

The Cajun women got 27 points from Jaylin Gordon and 21 from Keke Veal, who also notched 10 steals in the game.  Louisiana opened a 34-16 lead after the first quarter and never had the lead dip below 18 points the rest of the way.  The Cajuns shot 52.2 percent for the game and hit 3-6 three point baskets.

The Cajun women will conclude their exhibition season this Thursday night against Xavier (LA), while the men will open their regular season this Friday against Louisiana College.
