When news arose over the weekend that Joker Phillips would not return as the head coach of Kentucky's football team next year, a former disgraced SEC coach showed interest in the opening.

Bobby Petrino reportedly wants to be the next coach of the Wildcats, this according to his Father. Petrino was fired last April as coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks for reasons any sports fan already knows about by now. Just in case you need a refresher, click here.

“I know he wants a job; he needs a job,” Petrino Sr. said by telephone Wednesday. “He told me, ‘I need a job, Dad.’ I said, ‘Well, you must still have some money. You made 31/2 million dollars.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I do. It’s not the money.’ He just misses coaching so much.

“I just know this, that he’s interested in Kentucky,” his father went on to say. “He wants to stay in the SEC. That was his life’s goal was to go to the SEC.”

"You know, he made mistakes," Petrino Sr. told the paper, "but he couldn't have gone through any punishment worse than losing his job. He's missed coaching tremendously."

Really? Losing his job was the worst part? Isn't his Father aware of what he did to his wife and 4 kids?

While many Wildcat fans are openly approving a potential Petrino hire, the same Yahoo! sports report that noted Phillip's departure after this year reported that Kentucky would not consider hiring Petrino. That's a smart move. While his track record on the field speaks for itself, so does his track record off the field.
