All summer long, we’ve listed the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #95.

Today, #96:

The pick: Antwan Lake

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #96, the choice is limited to defensive linemen Steve Parker, Don Thorp, Sheldon Andrus, Michael Simmons, Jeff Faulkner, Mark Gunn, Dameian Jeffries, Uhuru Hamiter, Melvin Williams, Antwan Lake, and Paul Spicer.

Our choice is going to be Lake, a defensive lineman, who played for the Saints for 3 years, from 2006-2008.

While not exactly a household name, Lake wore the number the longest. He's one of only three players to wear it for longer than a year, and the only one to wear it for three seasons.

After playing his college football at West Virginia, Lake was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Lions following the 2002 NFL Draft.

A native of Cambridge, Maryland, Lake played one year with the Lions, and then two with the Atlanta Falcons, before joining the Saints in 2006.

The 6-foot-4, 308-pound Lake had his best season for the Saints in 2007, starting 7 games defensive tackle, while compiling 15 tackles, including one sack.

Lake was mostly a reserve during  in the 2006 and 2008 seasons, totaling 12 tackles and a sack.

Lake retired following the 2008 campaign.

In 3 seasons with the Saints, Lake appeared in 41 games, including 8 as a starter, collecting 27 tackles and 2 sacks.

In 6 NFL seasons, Lake appeared in 79 games, including 12 as a starter, compiling 41 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries.
