All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #68

Today, #69:

The pick: Tom Ackerman

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #69, the choice is limited to defensive linemen Anthony Hargrove, Oakley Dalton, Pat Swoopes, Les Miller, and McKinley Boykin, and offensive linemen Eric Olsen, Tom Ackerman, Bill Fifer, Nat Hudson, and Ralph Williams.

While nobody really stands out here, our selection is going to be Ackerman, an offensive lineman, who played for the Saints for six years, from 1996-2001.

While he started only 18 games for the franchise, Ackerman still had more starts than the others on the list, played more seasons, and was a key reserve during his tenure.

After playing his college football at East Washington, Ackerman was selected by the Saints in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL Draft.

A native of Bellingham, Washington, Ackerman was used mostly in a reserve role, and on special teams, in his first two seasons.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Ackerman went on to start ten games at center in 1998, and eight more at guard in 1999, before being used as a reserve, and on special teams, in both 2000 and 2001.

Ackerman left the Saints following the 2001 season, singing with the Tennessee Titans, with whom he played two seasons, before retiring following the 2003 campaign.

In six seasons with the Saints, Ackerman appeared in 78 games, including 18 as a starter.

In eight NFL seasons, Ackerman appeared in 105 games, including 21 as a starter.
