All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #59

Today, #60:

The pick: Steve Korte

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #60, the choice is limited to defensive linemen Brian Schweda, Don Reese, and Tearrius George, linebackers Carl Cunningham and Greg Westbrooks, and offensive linemen Doug Sutherland, Steve Korte, Derek Kennard, Craig Novitsky, Kendall Gammon, Robert Hunt, Ben Archibald, and Nick Leckey.

Our selection is going to be Korte, an offensive lineman, who played for the Saints for seven years, from 1983-1989.

After playing his college football at Arkansas where he was a consensus All-American guard in 1982, Korte was drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft.

A native of Denver, Colorado, Korte was a backup at guard and center in his rookie season, before becoming a starter at both guard and center in 1984.

Korte remained the starting center for the Saints for the next five seasons, before retiring at the end of the 1989 season.

In seven years with the Saints, the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Korte played in 83 games for the Saints, 63 as a starter.
