Yesterday, we looked at the best player that the Saints ever drafted out of Purdue.

Today, we spotlight the best player the Saints ever drafted from San Diego St.

When it comes to selecting the best player the Saints ever drafted from San Diego St., the choice is limited to offensive lineman Kyle Turley (1998) and defensive lineman Jim Wilks (1981).

The pick is going to be Wilks, a defensive lineman, who played for the Saints for 13 years, from 1981-1993.

After playing his college football at San Diego St., Wilks was selected by the Saints in the 12th round of the 1981 NFL Draft.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Wilks was a reserve in his rookie season, before becoming a starter just one year later.

The 6-foot-5, 266-pound Wilks went on to start at either defensive end or nose tackle for the next 11 seasons, a key component on a number of outstanding defenses during that time.

Wilks was a reserve in the 1993 season, and then retired afterwards.

In 13 NFL seasons, all with the Saints, Wilks appeared in 183 games, including 154 as a starter, compiling 45.5 sacks, and 7 fumble recoveries.
