Will Muschamp, who was the head coach of the Florida Gators for the last four seasons, is headed back to the SEC, and back to the Auburn Tigers.

Auburn announced on Friday night that Muschamp had agreed to become the school's new defensive coordinator, a position he held in the 2006 and 2007 seasons, under former head coach Tommy Tuberville.

Muschamp receives a reported two-year contract worth between $1.6-$1.8 million, making him the highest paid coordinator in college football.

The 43-year old Muschamp was the defensive coordinator at LSU from 2001-2004, before moving with Nick Saban to the Miami Dolphins, where he was the assistant head coach for the 2005 season.

After coming back to college football as the defensive coordinator at Auburn from 2006-2007, Muschamp left to become the defensive coordinator and the head-coach-in-waiting at Texas from 2008-2010.

Florida hired Muschamp as head coach in 2011, where he compiled an overall record of 28-21 over four season, including a 6-5 mark this past season.

In 2012, Muschamp guided the Gators to an 11-2 season, and a berth in the Sugar Bowl, while being named the SEC Coach of the Year.

Muschamp replaces former defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson, who was fired after Auburn finished 13th in total defense in 2014.

Muschamp's name was connected with numerous coaching openings recently, including the head coaching job at Houston, as well as assistant positions at South Carolina and Texas A&M.
