Taylor Thurber pitched a complete game, scattered five hits and struck out eleven as Appalachian State defeated Louisiana 2-1, snapping the Cajuns' seven game winning streak.

Thurber (4-8) who came into the game with a 2.52 ERA despite just three wins, was masterful as he allowed only Stefan Trosclair's solo homer in the first inning.  He allowed just two hits after the second inning.

Gunner Leger (5-3) took the hard luck loss for the Cajuns, allowing just one earned run over 7.2 innings.  He did not walk a man and struck out six.

After Trosclair's homer in the first, the Cajuns got a pair of two out hits in the second inning but couldn't get the hit needed to add to the lead.

Appalachian State (14-33, 6-18 Sun Belt) tied the game on Brandon Burris' solo homer down the left field line in the third inning.  Leger worked out of a two on, ,no out jam in the fourth, but in the fifth, Chandler Seagle reached on Trosclair's error.  A pair of wild pitches moved the runner to third with one out and DIllon Dobson doubled up the gap in left center for what proved to be the winning run.

The Cajuns (29-16, 13-8) threatened in the seventh when Greg Davis reached on a one out error and Evan Powell doubled with two down.  But Thurber got pinch hitter Brenn Conrad to ground out to end the threat.

Game two of the series will be tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
