All-NBA squads today were announced today.

Anthony Davis did not make the cut, receiving 76 votes total, the third most among players who missed out on All-NBA.

For most players, being named 1st, 2nd or 3rd team is a nice honor for the resume.

For New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis, it was a matter of $24 million.

Davis finished the 2015-16 season on the bench in street clothes after undergoing season-ending surgery in March. However, his numbers were solid. The All-Star led the team in points (24.3), rebounds (10.3), and blocks (2.0).

It still wasn't good enough to garner enough votes for All-NBA. As a result, he does not qualify for the "Rose Rule", missing out on $24 million over the life of his current contract.

Last summer was great for Davis. He was coming off an incredible season. The future was bright.

He signed a 5 year extension worth up to $145 million, the richest in NBA history. However, the $145 million value is only reached if Davis qualifies for the “Rose Rule”.

The “Rose Rule”, according to the NBA Salary Cap FAQ website, allows a player who fulfills all 4 years of their rookie scale contract and during that stretch is either voted league MVP at least once, or is voted All-NBA first, second or third team twice, or is voted an All-Star starter twice, to receive a higher maximum salary and make up to 30% of the team’s salary cap.

The difference in the lifetime of Davis’ contract would go from an estimated $120.45 million to an estimated $144.54 million if he reaches the terms necessary for the “Rose Rule”.

Davis just finished the 4th year of his rookie scale contract. His extension kicks in this summer.

The 2016 All-NBA teams are as follows:

1st team: LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, DeAndre Jordan, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook

2nd team: Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, DeMarcus Cousins, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard

3rd team: Paul George, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Drummond, Klay Thompson, Kyle Lowry
