American runner Manteo Mitchell ran the first leg of the men's 4X400 relay qualifier today and finished his leg of the race despite breaking his leg halfway through.

He said he heard and felt his leg snap about 200 meters into his leg of the race.  Despite that, he ran a respectable 46.1 seconds.  After passing the baton he watched his teammates easily qualify for tomorrow night's final.

A few hours later doctors confirmed what Mitchell felt: he had run the last 200 meters with a broken left fibula.

How was he able to do it?  "Faith.  Focus.  Finish," he said.
