American Pharoah, the Bob Baffert horse that won the Kentucky Derby got an unfavorable draw for the Preakness when the horse drew the dreaded pole position.

And to add insult to injury, his other entry, Dortmund, got the #2 position.

Those are the least coveted positions for a horse race, and history says that's not just a superstition.

The last horse to win the Preakness from the pole position was Tabasco Cat...and that was 21 years ago.

American Pharoah was made the 4:5 morning line favorite with Dortmund the second choice at 7:2.  Derby runnerup Firing Line was installed at 4:1.

There are only eight horses entered in the Preakness, the fewest since 2000.
