Don't look now but Acadiana's best kept secret baseball team is beginning to heat up.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters, the summer baseball team of the Texas Collegiate League have won nine games in a row! In addition, the team is 9-1 in its last 10 games and have catapulted themselves right back up near the top of the five team league.

The team is currently 17-12, sitting in third place but only a game behind the second place Victoria Generals, and two games back of the Brazos Valley Bombers who lead the league at 21-12.

This team has been getting major contributions from their catcher out of Lamar University, Rhett McCall who leads the league in hitting at an impressive .419 clip. He's also scored 25 runs, has a .482 on-base percentage, and holds a 1.012 OPS (on-base plus slugging).

Another hitter that has been pulling the weight for this Cane Cutters lineup is outfielder Cole Secrest, a freshman from Lamar. He's hitting a solid .316, tied with his teammate McCall for the league lead in runs scored with 25, he's fifth in the league in RBI's with 18, and has collected five doubles.

As for the pitching side of things the team has many players who rank near or at the top of the league and there are a couple local kids.

Ragin' Cajuns fans may be familiar with this name, Michael Leaumont who has been having a terrific summer on the bump. He's tied for the league lead win total (he's 3-0), he's third in the league in ERA (3.03), and Leaumont has pitched 26.1 innings, struck out 21 batters and walked only 11.

A former Cajun who is performing well for the Cutters is Hayden Erbe. Erbe leads the league in strikeouts with an impressive 43 in 22.2 innings pitched and he's 1-0. However, his control has been a little bit of a concern as he's walked 22 batters in those 22 innings, his ERA is 5.16, and he's 1-0. Most of his work has come out of the bullpen but he has made two starts in eight appearances. Hayden is transferring to Seminole State Junior College next season.

The Cane Cutters take on the Texas Marshals tonight at 7:05pm at Fabacher Field.
